This week, we speak with Mark Mobius, known as the “Godfather of the Emerging Market.” Mobius has spent more than 40 years working and traveling in the developing economy. Prior to launching the renowned Mobius Capital Partners in 2018, he served as executive chairman of the emerging market group of Franklin Templeton Investments, which helped him grow from $ 100 million to over $ 40 billion across six markets in 70 countries. Mobius has a Ph.D. From MIT in economics and has written 12 books.
We discuss how he ended up financing after working in various fields and traveling through Asia. She was seduced by Japan in the 1980s. His experience led him to recognize the possibility of investing outside of US Todd, when he travels, he divides his time between Dubai and Singapore.
There was no playbook for EM investing, and so Mobius learned to work. He further explained some of the color mistakes he had made over the years and how he used them to improve his process. One of the things he learned was to always talk to potential investment staff at the bottom level of the C-Suite. You will get an idea of recruitment and corporate culture from these employees; You may also find out about some hidden issues that Exx did not share.
We also chat about how Singapore has become the food capital of Asia and how it feels to eat dangerous foods like Fugu in Japan and Scorpions in Vietnam.
